Road Runner replaces 404's with there own "sponcered&qu
Since Feb of 2008 I have been running into problems connected to the web. Instead of getting the page I want I end up at: http://ww23.rr.com After four long hours and three different departments I finally got to someone that could tell me the truth. It turns out that Road Runner has started there own DNS server http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_name_system So if you typed the web address in wrong you would get re-directed to ww23.rr.com. But heres the deal, I'm using bookmarks so nothings typed wrong. When I asked what the "time out period" was for Road Runner's DNS server the tech would not give me an answer. The tech did tell me that Road Runner just started this DNS in feb of 2008. I asked why Road Runner started there own DNS, what was I using before? The tech said that there are tons of other DNS's. Then the tech offered me a way to opt out of the Road Runner DNS. As I was opting out I noticed that Road Runner has paid advertisements on there ww23.rr.com (404) page..... I have a feeling that Road Runner has a small time out period set on the DNS just so that more people will be re-directed to ww23.rr.com and the paid advertising. Since I have Road Runner light, I get allot of time outs. to opt out of this service: goto: http://help.rr.com/HMSLogic/main_contentwell.aspx Search for DNS Click on Road Runner Search page service here you will see some selections. chose "disable" Then click on "save" Has anyone else on Road Runners service experienced this? For Now I am opted out. Hopefully my internet experience will improve. Only time will tell.
